Balinese Cooking Schools

What better way to take back memories of Bali, than to learn how to cook some of the exotic dishes that make Bali famous? There are several well known and respected Bali cooking schools operating regular programs teaching a range of Balinese and Indonesian dishes.

• Casa Luna: Casa Luna offer half day cooking classes in the lush, tropical gardens of the Honeymoon Guest House. The Casa Luna Cooking School classes provide a fascinating insight into Balinese life, beliefs and culture through learning about its food, cooking and culinary myths.Participants learn about the exotic herbs and spices used in ceremonial and everyday Balinese dishes and are encouraged to actively help prepare the lavish Balinese feast that will then be enjoyed with a glass or two of local rice wine. Written notes and recipes are provided in each class.

• Bumbu Bali: During these popular cooking classes, conducted by expert chef Heinz von Holzen, you will discover the secrets of Balinese cuisine and enjoy its wonderful flavours. At the same time you'll experience the ambience of a traditional Balinese home, created by his wife Puji, and you'll be taken by Heinz to local markets to purchase the ingredients for the dishes you'll learn to prepare.Personal attention is given to all participants, and you're guided step by step in the hands-on preparation of Balinese delicacies. Hobby cooks and enthusiastic amateurs will enjoy Heinz' knowledge and expertise demonstrated in a traditional local kitchen, set in the ambient surrounds of a typical Balinese compound.
